Software Engineer — Core Infrastructure

Role Summary

Join the Stripe Core Infrastructure group building resilient, horizontally scalable payment processing and distributed event streaming pipelines. You will write high-throughput services with rigorous reliability requirements and five-nines uptime expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain low-latency backend APIs and streaming services using Go, Java, and Kafka.
• Ensure 99.999% availability for critical payment processing pathways.
• Participate in on-call rotations and write clear incident postmortems.
• Optimize database schemas, indexes, and queries across distributed relational storage systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 3+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in Go, Java, C++, or Rust.
• Solid foundations in distributed systems, network protocols, concurrency, and data structures.
• Hands-on experience with SQL databases and distributed event brokers such as Kafka.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial technology, PCI compliance, or payment processing pipelines.
• Experience operating infrastructure on AWS or GCP at multi-region scale.
